Question:
Why is my copied audio CD only showing up with one track called "data"?

Answer:
Because it is a data CD with audio on it, as opposed to an audio CD. You can get the audio from the CD by using Windows Explorer to look inside the CD (as you would a hard drive) and just copy and paste the files without the use of this program.

Question:
What is the difference between lossless and lossy file formats?

Answer:
A lossy format (MP3, AAC, etc.) is a format which throws away data in order to have a smaller file size, while a lossless format is one that compresses to a smaller size while still keeping all the data.

Question:
I converted an Ogg Vorbis file to MP3 but the quality of the resulting file is poor. Why?

Answer:
OGG and MP3 are both lossy file formats. What is happening is that the OGG encoder originally threw away data from the track, and when you convert to MP3 the MP3 encoder (LAME) is throwing away more data, so you lose quality.

Question:
FreeRIP does not show the exact title of the tracks on my CD. It only shows Track 1, Track 2, etc. Why?

Answer:
There are a few answers to this question. You are either not connected to the internet, FreeRIP is being blocked by your firewall, the CD is not in the database yet (please fill in the info and submit it if you have time) or FreeRIP DB is temporarily down (it is rare but it happens with all servers), in which case it will work when you try later.
